Tom Anderson Drop Top | Figured Mango (Special Selection Top)

The Tom Anderson Drop Top takes the familiar S-style platform and pushes it firmly into Super Strat territory, combining the ergonomics and versatility players expect from the classic design with Anderson’s modern construction, precision and attention to detail. This Anderson Custom keeps that foundation recognizable while giving it a much more distinctive personality through its woods, finish and HSS electronics.

The obvious standout is the Figured Mango top, finished with a Black Shaded Edge and natural binding over an Alder body. This is also a Special Selection top that we hand selected specifically for this build, making it even more unique. We went through the available options to find a piece with exceptional movement and character, and this one stood out immediately. That level of intention really shows in the finished guitar. The deep black perimeter frames the natural colouring and figuring beautifully, while the gloss Black Back carries the finish around the instrument for a clean contrast.

The neck is another highlight, pairing Caramel Maple with a Ziricote fingerboard and Anderson’s Even-Taper profile. A 12"–14" compound radius, Jumbo stainless steel frets and 25.5" scale give it the modern playing geometry you want from a Super Strat, while the satin natural neck back keeps the playing surface smooth and understated. Locking tuners, a Vintage Tremolo and the Buzz Feiten Tuning System round out the hardware package.

Electronics are classic Anderson versatility: SF1 single coils in the neck and middle with an HC2+ humbucker at the bridge. The 5-way switching is supplemented by Anderson’s splitter configuration, including the neck-and-bridge combination, giving this Drop Top access to traditional single-coil textures, fuller humbucker sounds and combinations you wouldn’t normally find on a conventional S-style guitar.
