We've had the privilege of selecting some extraordinary woods from the PRS Private Stock Vault, but this Custom 24 is on another level entirely. We personally hand-selected every piece during our most recent visit to the PRS factory, and the finished instrument is nothing short of spectacular. From the incredibly three-dimensional Quilted Maple top to the remarkable Swamp Ash back and the absolutely insane Quilted Maple fingerboard, this is one of those builds where the woods deserve every bit of the attention.

Let's start with that top, because it's ridiculous. The Quilted Maple has an almost tubular, three-dimensional quality, with deep, rolling waves of figure that look as though they're moving beneath the finish. The Frostbite Glow stain is the perfect complement, transitioning from deep charcoal and black around the edges into smoky silver and icy, natural Maple tones through the center. Every angle reveals something different, with the quilt catching the light in a way that's genuinely difficult to capture in photographs. The contrasting Ebony binding adds another beautiful detail without taking anything away from the wood itself.

Turn the guitar over and things get even more interesting. The Swamp Ash back is absolutely remarkable, with enormous, sweeping grain patterns highlighted by the contrasting black and white finish. It's bold, dramatic and completely different from the front, yet the two work together beautifully. The Ash neck carries that same striking grain treatment all the way to the headstock, making the back of this guitar every bit as impressive as the front. Even the matching Swamp Ash backplates were carefully chosen to maintain the continuity of the grain.

And then there's the Quilted Maple fingerboard, which might be our favorite detail of the entire build. The figuring is extraordinary, with incredible depth and movement running along the full length of the neck. The Jett Onyx birds with White Mother of Pearl outlines provide a stunning contrast against the natural Maple, while the matching Quilted Maple headstock veneer features a Jett Onyx Private Stock Eagle. Paired with the Ebony binding, it's an absolutely beautiful combination of woods and inlays.

Underneath all that incredible craftsmanship is a serious Custom 24, featuring a Pattern Thin neck, PRS 58/15 LT pickups, Gen III tremolo, Phase III locking tuners and versatile switching with two mini switches. Smoked Black hardware complements the Frostbite Glow finish, while the High Gloss Nitro brings out every detail of the extraordinary figuring.

This is exactly why we love the Private Stock program. Personally selected woods from the Vault, some of the most outrageous figuring we've encountered, and a completely unique instrument that looks spectacular from absolutely every angle. It's difficult to imagine finding another Custom 24 with a combination of woods quite like this.
