I've always had a soft spot for the 513 Standard. The figured maple top 513s are fantastic guitars, but this is the one I get excited about. PRS built far fewer Standards, making them considerably harder to find today, and I actually love the understated look of the all mahogany body. It lets the design, craftsmanship, and engineering do all the talking. Pair that with the unique 25.25" scale, exclusive 513 neck carve, and larger 513 fretwire, and you've got a guitar that feels unlike anything else PRS has ever produced.
The real trick, though, is the electronics. Five proprietary single coils and an ingenious switching system deliver 13 genuinely usable voices without feeling like a gimmick. The three mode selector lets you jump between true single coil, Clear Humbucking, and Heavy Humbucking modes, while the five way blade gives you familiar pickup combinations within each. It covers everything from crisp, glassy cleans to thick, muscular humbucker tones, all while remaining remarkably quiet. Even by today's standards, it's an incredibly sophisticated design, and one that still feels ahead of its time.
This particular 2009 example has aged exactly the way you'd hope. It's in excellent condition, showing only the slightest signs of honest player wear. No stories, no excuses, just a well cared for instrument that's ready for its next chapter. Between its rarity, versatility, and the fact that PRS no longer builds anything quite like it, this is one of those guitars that appeals just as much to collectors as it does to players. When another 513 does surface, chances are it'll be the much more common maple topped version. Finding a Standard like this is a far rarer opportunity.
