The Gretsch Penguin has always felt like Gretsch’s answer to the flashy late 50s American dream. Sitting alongside iconic guitars like the Gibson Les Paul Custom and Fender Stratocaster during one of the most influential eras in guitar history, the original 1958 Penguin was Gretsch showing they could build a true top shelf luxury instrument with just as much attitude and personality. This Vintage Select version absolutely captures that spirit with all the class, style, and oversized presence that made the originals so desirable.
Finished in Vintage White with gold sparkle binding and gold hardware throughout, this thing looks incredible in person. The inlays, oversized Gretsch appointments, jeweled control layout, and Bigsby give it that unmistakable late 50s Gretsch aesthetic that somehow feels both elegant and rock and roll at the same time.
Tonally, this is everything you want from a great Filter’Tron equipped Gretsch. The TV Jones Classic pickups deliver that wide, open chime with crisp attack, tight low end, and airy top end that made vintage Gretsch guitars famous. Clean tones sparkle with tons of dimension, while overdriven sounds stay articulate and punchy without losing clarity. The chambered mahogany body adds warmth and resonance underneath it all, giving the guitar a lively and addictive feel that really comes alive in your hands.
