Gibson Custom Shop 1964 ES 335 Reissue Murphy Lab | Sixties Cherry

This is about as close as you can get to walking into a guitar shop in 1964 and pulling a brand new ES 335 off the wall. The Gibson Custom Shop 1964 ES 335 Reissue captures one of the most celebrated eras of the model, finished in a gorgeous Sixties Cherry and given the Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged treatment. At just 7 lbs 13 oz, it is also a fantastic weight for a 335.

The Murphy Lab treatment absolutely makes this guitar. The nitro finish has beautiful fine checking throughout, while the nickel hardware has just enough oxidation and patina to make the whole instrument feel genuinely old. Ultra Light Aged is subtle by Murphy Lab standards, which we think is perfect on a 335. It has the character of a beautifully preserved vintage guitar rather than something that has been beaten up for decades.

The 64 Medium C Mahogany neck is another highlight. It has enough substance to feel unmistakably vintage without becoming cumbersome, paired with a dark Indian Rosewood board and those iconic small block inlays. Plugged in, the pair of unpotted Alnico 3 Custombuckers deliver everything you want from a great 335. They are warm and woody when you want them to be, but still have the clarity, bite and openness that make these guitars so incredibly versatile.

There is a reason the ES 335 has remained one of Gibson's defining guitars for nearly seven decades. This one gives you the look, feel and character of a beautifully preserved Golden Era example without having to venture into the vintage market. Serial 121431 is in excellent condition and includes its Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case and Murphy Lab Certificate of Authenticity.
