The Fender FSR Wildwood Thin Skin ’52 Telecaster takes one of the most iconic electric guitar designs ever made and gives it the kind of subtle updates that make a vintage-inspired Telecaster considerably easier to live with. Built as a special-run model for Wildwood Guitars, the Thin Skin series pairs classic Fender aesthetics with an exceptionally thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, allowing the character and grain of the ash body to remain front and center.
The recipe is about as quintessentially Telecaster as it gets: an ash body finished in Butterscotch Blonde, a roasted maple neck and fingerboard, black single-ply pickguard, vintage-style hardware and a traditional three-saddle bridge with brass saddles. The thin translucent finish is particularly effective on this example, with plenty of natural grain visible across both the front and back.
It’s a great intersection of vintage Fender character and a more player-focused approach to the ’52 Telecaster formula. The Wildwood Thin Skin runs have developed a strong following for exactly that reason: familiar Blackguard looks, a thin nitro finish and carefully selected specs without straying far from what makes a great Telecaster a great Telecaster.
