The Axis has been doing its own thing since the early '90s. While plenty of guitars have come and gone chasing the latest trend, this one has barely changed. Turns out when you get the important stuff right the first time, there's nothing to fix.
This one, though, is in a different league. The one piece quilt maple top simply wasn't offered on production Axis models. Most figured tops are bookmatched from two pieces, but finding a single slab this wide and this heavily figured is exceptionally rare. Finished in custom Translucent Gold, every ripple and curl jumps to life. Photos do their best. Your eyeballs would do better.
Music Man doubled down with an outrageously figured birdseye maple neck and matching birdseye fretboard. They already make some of the best feeling necks in the business, but this one is just as fun to look at. You'll spend an embarrassing amount of time staring at the back of the neck. Ask me how I know.
Underneath all the eye candy, it's still the Axis players have loved for decades. The basswood body keeps things balanced and punchy, while the custom DiMarzio humbuckers deliver all the harmonic chew and midrange bark the model is known for. The top gets all the attention. The neck quietly steals the show.
