The original Suhr Guthrie Govan Signature Modern has become one of their most sought-after models and finding one in Faded Trans Whale Blue Burst is exceptionally rare. Produced during Guthrie’s relatively brief tenure as a Suhr artist, these guitars seldom surface today and the overwhelming majority seen on the market wear the familiar Light Bengal Burst finish. This example, serial #11196, pairs the original Guthrie specification with a spectacular figured maple top in Faded Trans Whale Blue Burst and a matching figured headstock, making it an especially uncommon example of an already highly collectible model.

The appeal goes well beyond rarity. Built to Guthrie’s famously exacting specifications, it features a mahogany body and neck, Pau Ferro fingerboard, 24 jumbo stainless-steel frets, his Modern Elliptical GG neck carve, and Suhr’s SSV/ML/SSH+ HSH pickup combination. A Gotoh 510 tremolo with Tremol-No, expanded switching and blower switch complete a specification designed to cover an enormous amount of musical ground without compromising playability.

This particular guitar also includes a Guthrie Govan photograph personally signed by Guthrie in person at a clinic, an incredibly cool addition to an already significant instrument. Together with Guthrie’s factory-engraved signature on the back of the headstock, it makes this a particularly special package for the serious Suhr collector or Guthrie Govan fan.

With the original Guthrie Govan Suhrs long discontinued, examples have become increasingly difficult to find. In this extraordinarily uncommon Faded Trans Whale Blue Burst configuration, this is one we would not expect to see again anytime soon.
