The SC56 is one of those guitars that doesn't need to reinvent anything because it's paying tribute to one of the designs that got it right the first time. Inspired by the golden era of Gibson Les Paul single cuts, and carrying the McCarty name in honour of Ted McCarty, this limited edition is Paul Reed Smith's way of celebrating the guitars that shaped modern electric guitar history. Only 400 were built worldwide, and I think PRS absolutely nailed the balance between vintage character and modern refinement.

Everything about it feels intentional. The slightly shorter 24.594" scale length gives the guitar that familiar warmth and effortless bendability, while the weight relieved mahogany body keeps it comfortable without sacrificing the punch and sustain you'd expect from a great single cut. Then there's the finish. High gloss nitro over a beautifully carved maple top, old school birds, the pre factory eagle on the headstock, and just enough vintage flair to make you smile every time you open the case.

The McCarty III pickups are the icing on the cake. They're wonderfully open and articulate with the kind of woody midrange that makes chords bloom and single notes hang in the air. Clean, they're incredibly expressive. Push an amp and they reward you with that thick, singing voice people have been chasing for decades. To me, this isn't PRS trying to copy history. It's PRS showing what decades of guitar building experience can add to it.
