Ibanez JS240PS | Candy Apple

If you've spent any time around me, you'll know I'm a little biased here. Joe Satriani has been my favourite guitar player for as long as I can remember, so guitars with his name on the headstock always get my attention. The JS240PS isn't just another signature model either. It feels like a guitar designed by someone who actually lives on stage, where every detail has a purpose instead of just looking good in a brochure.

The headline feature is the Sustainiac system. Hit a note, flick the switch, and it just... keeps going. Harmonics bloom out of nowhere, feedback happens at bedroom volume, and suddenly you're doing things that normally require standing in front of a cranked half-stack. It's one of those features that's hard to appreciate until you've played one. Then it's hard to imagine not having it.

Beyond that, it's everything you'd expect from a JS. The American basswood body is incredibly comfortable, the 3-piece maple/bubinga neck feels effortlessly fast without ever feeling sterile, and the Edge tremolo is still one of the benchmarks for stability. The DiMarzio Satchur8 bridge pickup has plenty of punch and clarity but cleans up beautifully, making this just as happy playing blues or fusion as it is soaring lead lines.

Even if you're not a Satriani fan, this is simply a brilliantly thought-out performance guitar. If you are a Satriani fan... well, you already know why this one's special.
